The Occupational Therapy Department at Misericordia University has developed a Doctorate in Occupational therapy program
tentatively scheduled to begin in Fall 2008. This program has received provisional approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and has submitted application to the Middle States Association.
The proposed OTD curriculum would require 33-36 credits for registered OTs with either an entry level or post professional masters degree. OTs with a bachelors degree would be required to complete 60 credits, with “Core” courses (24 credits) to address the competencies required of leaders and advocates in the profession. These courses would include advanced theory, advanced research, program development and evaluation, occupational science, and public policy and advocacy. Capstone coursework would require the integration of these content areas into a clinical project, which would be formally evaluated and presented through another core course that emphasizes for professional presentation and/or publication.
9 credits in clinical specialties can be focused in either pediatrics or geriatrics. Students would be able to complete the program in a part-time format over 2 years as outlined below.
