From here you can search the library catalog for books and other materials, search for items that your professor puts on reserve, or search for articles in library databases. Books, videos, and other items owned by the library can be checked out at the circulation desk (x6231). Off Campus Courses
See the Academic Catalog for information.
Online Learning
Online learning is a learnbydoing method of acquiring knowledge. Rather than sitting in a classroom and listening, you will be at your computer reading, participating in online discussions and chats, and researching the Bevevino Library’s electronic databases. Online learning is active learning!
Online courses are challenging and exciting. It will be important to stay on schedule and complete your assignments on time. Online learning is for adults who are crunched for time and have a strong desire to continue their education.
Here are some key points for you to consider before you take an online course: Set goals for yourself— what do you expect from taking an online course? Plan to connect your life experiences with your education and course work. Your class work will be both individual and group based. Constructive feedback from instructors and classmates is a vital component to online learning. A moderate amount of computer literacy is expected.
About Your Computer You should have at least a Pentium III processor, but a Pentium IV would be best.
You should have at least 256 Mb of RAM memory, but 1Gb would be best.
Your Internet connection should be reliable. A dialup or 56k modem connection is fine, but a “broadband” DSL or Cable connection to the Internet would be best. Microsoft Office is the supported productivity software at Misericordia University. Files created in Works or WordPerfect are not accepted.
You should have Adobe Acrobat Reader loaded on your computer. Internet Explorer, Netscape, and FireFox are the supported web browsers with which your online courses will work well. Keep your web browser updated. You should scan your computer for viruses on a weekly basis. Just as important is keeping your computer clean from spyware.
The above information may be a lot at one time, but feel confident that help is available when you need it. If you have questions about your computer and the technology used at Misericordia University, please call the Student Help Desk at (570) 674-6345.

If a student does not officially withdraw from a course or ceases to attend it, a grade of “F” is incurred. See Academic Catalog for more information.
