What services does the LRC offer?

The LRC, located in the lower level of Alumnae Hall, offers a variety of academic and personal support services that include:
  • Peer Tutoring in Academic Course Work
  • “Smarthinking”-online tutoring service
  • Math Labs
  • Study Skills/Learning Strategy Support
  • Academic Workshops
  • Time Management Skills
  • Personal Counseling
  • Peer Advocate Support

What is "Smarthinking"?

“Smarthinking” is an online tutoring service available to all students. Students can drop in on a live tutoring session, submit papers, or schedule private sessions in many subject areas, such as statistics, economics, biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and much more. To sign up, click on the “Campus Services” tab on eMU and the “Smarthinking” link located in the LRC channel.

When is the LRC open and how can I schedule an appointment?

The LRC is open Monday - Thursday from 8 am - 9:30 pm and Fridays from 8 am - 4:30 pm. You can schedule an appointment to meet with a professional staff member during these times. Appointments can be arranged to meet with LRC professionals during Weekend College by scheduling them in advance. What services are available to part-time students?

All services available to full-time students are also available to part-time students.

Is there a LRC contact person for part time students?

Yes, Jackie Ghormoz, Director of the LRC, serves as a contact person for part-time students. If you are in need of services or information, you can call Jackie at 570-674-6340. You can leave a message for her on voice mail or e-mail her at jghormoz@misericordia.edu.

How do I arrange for tutoring?

Peer tutoring is available in the LRC, Monday through Thursday from 8 am - 9 pm and Fridays from 8 am-4pm. All tutoring is scheduled to meet on a weekly basis. In some cases tutoring may be arranged during weekend hours providing there is a tutor available. Contact 570-674-6208 for more information.

Is the LRC open during the summer?

The LRC is open during the summer. Individual academic support is available, but our tutoring program is not functioning as most of our tutors are away from campus.

Are LRC services available to graduate students?

LRC professional services are available to graduate students. The tutoring program, however, functions on a peer basis on the undergraduate level.
