Online bachelor's degree programs receive national ranking from U.S. News & World Report

Misericordia University’s online bachelor’s degree programs have been ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report in the 2014 U.S. News Online Education Program Rankings that were released Jan. 8 – the only online bachelor’s degree program to be recognized in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Misericordia University offers nine online bachelor’s degree programs through the Expressway Accelerated Degree Program: accounting, applied behavioral sciences, business administration, diagnostic medical sonography, government, law and national security, health care management, information technologies, professional studies, and RN-to-BSN.
Expressway was established in 1999 as a degree-completion program for highly motivated adult learners who have some college credits and/or applicable work experience. It offers adult learners the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in just two and a half years in flexible part-time formats. The academic programs can be completed entirely online or in blended formats in which students take online courses and select courses at convenient satellite campuses in Nanticoke and Scranton. Adult learners can enroll up to eight times during the academic year, helping them fit shorter class sessions into their busy schedules. The tuition rate is $350 per credit.
Misericordia University is accredited through the Middles States Commission on Higher Education. The business program is also accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated four weighted factors to rank the best online bachelor’s degree programs in the nation. For the first time, the annual rankings also included peer reputation. The factors included student engagement (40 percent), faculty credentials and training (20 percent), peer reputation (20 percent), and student services and technology (20 percent).
Overall, U.S. News ranked 205 college and university online bachelor’s degree programs across the country. Misericordia University received a score of 42 to forge a seven-way tie for 194th place. U.S. News chose not to rank an additional 68 online programs because they performed in the bottom 25 percent of schools. They received an “RNP” in the rankings instead of a numerical score for “Rank Not Published.’’ An additional five programs were “unranked” because they enrolled fewer than 10 students.
