Posted 08/18/2016 01:52PM

The College of Health Sciences and Education at Misericordia University recently held its second annual Health Sciences Interprofessional Middle School Career Camp for students entering 6-8th grades.

Students with an interest in the health and medical science fields came to Misericordia University and experienced life on a college campus, and spoke to students and faculty in their fields of interest. They gained firsthand experiences by exploring innovative technologies that enable college students to test their clinical skills on a SimBaby and SimMan in simulation laboratories, and master basic human anatomy, neurology and physiology with the Anatomage virtual dissection table. Middle school students also used equipment specialized to each area of practiced and observed how future health care practitioners develop treatment plans from therapy case studies.

Misericordia University features medical imaging, nursing, occupational therapy, patient navigator, physical therapy, sonography and speech-language pathology in the health and medical science fields, as well as pre-med, pre-optometry and pre-veterinary options, and other health science related fields.

Students gained an understanding of the many health science fields and how they are similar and different during the hands-on, activity-based camp. More importantly, they developed an understanding of the fields of study and learned about the different career paths available to them as they begin to chart their own futures.
