Founded in 1999, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins are an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They play in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The team mascot is a muscular skating penguin and can be seen at all home games and at various promotional appearances during the year.
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are the Class-AAA Minor League Baseball affiliate of the New York Yankees playing in the International League. The Yankees play at PNC Field, located in Moosic, Pennsylvania which is part of the metropolitan area of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The field is a 20-minute ride from campus. PNC Field is undergoing a $40 million renovation while the SWB Yankees play their games on the road for the 2012 season. It is due to reopen in spectacular fashion for the 2013 season. Misericordia University sport management students intern with the Yankees and several earned permanent positions with the team, including Mike Trudnak, director of Corporate Partnerships.
