Chris Somers D, Min, M.S.W
Director of Campus Ministry
Christine Somers has been at Misericordia since 2001 where she was the Associate Director of Campus Ministry. In 2008 she became the Director of Campus Ministry. Chris' background is both in social work experience and full time ministry experience. She has coordinated and directed all the international service trips to Peru, Guyana and Jamaica, as well as Spring break service trips here on campus. She has a bachelor and masters degree in social work from Marywood University and a Doctorate in Ministry from Graduate Theological Foundation. She also is an adjunct professor in the religious studies department and has taught courses in the social work department.
Assistant Director of Campus Ministry
Jeff's educational background is in Religion and Philosophy from the University of Scranton. He spent 4 years at St. Pius Seminary in Dalton. Jeff was also a Lt. in the Pa. Army Reserves where he was stationed at Ft. Indian Town Gap. He also worked for Children Service Center as a crisis counselor and for the Diocesan Missions office. Jeff has extensive international travel experience in developing countries, as well as a strong background in the Catholic liturgy. Jeff will be leading our Campus Ministry programs in our international travel to Guyana and Jamaica; as well as Liturgical coordinator, RCIA, retreat programs and spiritual programs/events on campus.
Kristen M. Samuels M.S.W
Community Outreach Coordinator
Kristen is a 2009 graduate of the Social Work program at Misericordia, and received her Master of Social Work degree in 2010 from Fordham University. As Community Outreach Coordinator, she plans and implements service and fundraising projects for on and off campus organizations. She also oversees Americorps programs Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania and Community Fellows, providing leadership opportunities which benefit our community. Kristen has served as an Americorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) concentrating on hunger and homelessness issues in Luzerne county, collaborating with the Catherine McAuley House and Campus Ministry. She most enjoys working with students on service trips, in community projects with children, and advocating for social justice. Kristen is an adjunct instructor in the Social Work department.
Georgia S. Young
Georgia Young has been at Misericordia since 1994 where she was the Accounts Receivable Coordinator for seven and a half years. In 2002 she became the Secretary of Campus Ministry. Georgia administrates all the daily office procedures. Georgia assists the Campus Ministry TEAM student leaders with coordinating their individual ministries. She helps with fundraising projects and oversees financial details for all Alternative Service Trips.
CAMPUS MINISTRY TEAM STUDENT COORDINATORS
Caitlin has been involved in campus ministry for the past three years; this is her second year as a Campus Ministry Team Student Coordinator. "Caitlin was a 4-year starter for the Misericordia Softball team and a 2-year team captain in 2012 and 2013. She was a First-Team All-Freedom selection as a utility player in 2013 and as a pitcher in 2011. In 2012 she was named Second-Team All-Freedom as a utility player and named an Academic All-American. In 2012 she led the Misericordia softball team to a Freedom Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA regional tournament at Kean University in New Jersey. Caitlin is looking forward to the upcoming school year when she will graduate with a doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Christina has been involved in campus ministry for the past three years and is currently studying occupational therapy. She is a senior and has participated in numerous clubs including College Kids for Girls, Adopt-a-Grandparent, MSOTA, Habitat for Humanity and many more. She was elected as a student coordinator for campus ministry this past year and continues to serve as a co-coordinator of Girl Power. She has been a member of Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania, attended a study abroad program in Florence, Italy and recently went on a service trip to Guyana.
