Jim Calderone, Ed.D. Professor of Social Work
Linda Trompetter currently serves as Special Assistant to the President for Diversity at Misericordia University. Dr. Trompetter is also Director of the Diversity Institute at Misericordia University, which she established in 1993. A native of the Wyoming Valley, Dr. Trompetter holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Penn State University, a master’s degree in theological studies with a concentration in ethics from Harvard University, and a master’s and doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Her academic work has centered on human rights, prejudice, and discrimination issues. Prior to coming to Misericordia University she was a tenured professor of philosophy at Missouri State University, where she established a women’s studies program and a religion studies program.
Dr. Trompetter has developed and presented successful training programs for industry, government agencies, public schools, universities and hospital systems, on diversity awareness, multicultural skill building, sexual harassment, and prejudice reduction. She has presented numerous workshops on issues of gender, religion, sexual orientation, class, building multicultural competence and cross cultural competence. In 1998 she established a residential, week -long Multicultural Leadership Camp for high school students to learn to be “Ambassadors for Change” in their school districts and communities. In 1999 she provided the leadership to establish the Northeastern Pennsylvania Diversity Education Consortium, (NEPDEC), a regional organization of 32 members, whose mission is to improve minority recruitment in the region, and provide educational programs for its members and the communities they serve. She currently serves as the President of the Board of NEPDEC.
Mr. Scott Richardson has worked in secondary and higher education for the past fifteen years. He has served as an administrator, teacher, trainer, educator, counselor, and advisor. Some of Richardson's work experiences include Director of Assessment (Reading Area Community College) and Director of Educational Opportunity (Pennsylvania State University, Berks Campus). Mr. Richardson holds a B. A. in Music and an M. Ed. in Curriculum Development and Pedagogy from Kutztown University. He is a doctoral candidate in Higher Education Leadership, Organization and Policy at Widener University.
Jim Calderone, Ed.D. has served as Professor of Social Work at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania since 1981. A native of the Wyoming Valley, Dr. Calderone holds a bachelor’s degree in English/Secondary Education from Wilkes University, a master’s degree in Social Work from University of Wisconsin School of Social Work and Ed.D. in Adult Education from Temple University. Dr. Calderone also attended the Pius X Seminary.
Jim has developed and presented successful training programs for public schools, universities, and the Diversity Institute Multicultural Camp on multicultural awareness and cross cultural communication skills.
