George Sprengelmeyer, D.M.A. - Assistant Professor and Department Chair

George Sprengelmeyer was recently awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in guitar performance at the prestigious Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he had the opportunity to study the guitar with the internationally acclaimed recording and concert artist Manuel Barrucco. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Hartt School of Music where he studied with Richard Provost. Mr. Sprengelmeyer is an accomplished soloist and chamber performer. As a soloist, he has given concerts at the Peabody Institute, Hartt School, Wilkes University, Misericordia University, the Connecticut and Philadelphia Classical Guitar Societies. He has also performed as a member of the Kithara Guitar Trio with whom he commissioned an arrangement of the Concertino, by Gabriel Grovlez, and premiered "In a Raindrop ... the Moon" written by Bruce Reiprich for the trio. He received first place in the Hartt School's Commencement Competition and was a finalist at the 1992 M.T.N.A. International Collegiate Artists Competition. Mr. Sprengelmeyer is currently a Assistant Professor of Fine Arts and the Guitar at Misericordia University.

John Curtis, D.M.A. - Professor and Director of Choral Activities

John Curtis earned his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Conducting from SUNY Stony Brook, his Master of Music Degree in conducting from Temple University, and his Bachelor of Music Degree with Honors in piano performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. He has published research on the German composers Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, J.S. Bach, and Christoph Graupner. Along with directing the award-winning MU Chamber Singers and teaching Fine Arts core classes, Dr. Curtis oversees the university's music, dance, and theater programs. He is also in demand as a guest conductor and adjudicator throughout Pennsylvania.

Betty Porzuczek, M.A. - Assistant Professor

Betty Porzuczek (known affectionately to her students as "Mrs. P") earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano from the University of Iowa. She has given solo and chamber music performances in Iowa, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Also an accomplished organist, Mrs. P has served as a church musician in Methodist and Lutheran churches and is currently organist at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingston, PA. She is the accompanist for the Misericordia Choral Society and performs regularly with Musica Misericordia.
