The recent shortage in nurses has demanded a core of nurse educators. Misericordia University has answered the call by offering a Post Master's Certification in Nursing Education.
Candidates for this program have their Master's Degree in Nursing and a desire to prepare themselves as Nurse Educators.
The program includes three didactic and one practicum course.
Post-Master's Certificate Options:
1. Family Nurse Practitioner provides the opportunity for nurses who already have an earned master's degree in nursing, in another clinical specialization, to complete requirements to qualify for certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Program Description: The certificate program consists of a minimum of 24 credits from the Family Nurse Practitioner clinical specialization. Additional credits in pathophysiology, pharmacology, and health assessment and role development may be required based on evaluation of previous university transcripts and professional experiences. Post-master's certificate program students complete a minimum of 630 hours of directed clinical practice in primary care under the supervision of qualified clinicians. The program can be completed in the Weekday or Weekend study options.
2. Nursing Education provides the opportunity for nurses who have an earned degree in nursing to extend their knowledge in the area of nursing education. This certificate program consists of a minimum of twelve credits which include Nursing Education Course Sequence.

In response to the identified national need for a sufficient supply of expert clinicians, and the profession's call for flexibility in the development of new initiatives and programs, the Nursing Department offers two special, innovative programs of study. These programs are for students who already hold professional nursing licensure and/or degrees and are looking to "fast track" their education to achieve advanced nursing credentials or certification.
