I don't know anything about the library. What should I do?
The library offers library or information literacy classes to individuals or groups. These
sessions cover everything from basic library orientation (such as where can I find this book)
to basic and advance search techniques. Also, we show you how to evaluate information sources including the Internet. Please contact our Reference Staff who will be happy to assist you.
How do I access the library home page?
There are three ways to gain access:
How do I find the online library catalog?
From the library home page under Library Catalogs, click on Online Catalog.
How do I search the online catalog?
You can search by subject, title and/or author for books or other materials. The Help tab at the top of the screen can help you search for items.
How do I find something on Reserve?
From the Online Catalog page, you can search the Reserve Desk by instructor's name, course number or course title for materials placed on reserve by faculty. Reserve items are kept behind the Circulation Desk on the first floor.
How do I access the electronic databases?
To access the electronic databases for journal articles and other materials, go to the Library Home page. Under Research, click on Electronic Databases. This will bring up a list of the databases that we have access to as well as a brief summary about each database.
How do I search the databases?
After selecting a database, you can search by keyword, subject, title and /or author for articles. You will retrieve a citation of the article or a full text version of the article. Please refer to detailed handout regarding database searches.
Can I access the databases from off campus?
The library provides off-campus access to databases, e-books, and journals through the use of a proxy server. To access these resources from off-campus, enter your Misericordia user name and password when prompted. (Note: this is the same user name and password that you use to access e-MU and your email account.) If you need assistance, contact the Reference Desk at 570-674-6352 or email reference@misericordia.edu. I f you don’t have a Misericordia user name and password, contact the e-MU Help Desk at 570-674-6345.
What kind of instructional services does the library offer?
The library has a variety of instructional services to meet students' specific needs.
We offer:
Will you be able to show me how to research a particular topic for class?
Yes, we do offer individualized instruction on that. We will also develop for you a research guide to information sources you can use for your topic. You can schedule a class or just drop by; a reference staff member will be there to help you.
What should I do if I need articles or books that are not available either online or at the library?
If the library does not own the journal article that you need, and it is not available online, you can obtain the article through Interlibrary Loan (ILL), i.e. we will get it for you from another library or information center. ILL requests can be made online, by clicking on the Interlibrary Loan link on the Library Home Page.
