Guest speakers to address U.S. foreign relations 09-17-09 Friends of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library at Misericordia University is hosting Lawrence Rothfield, Ph.D., an author and academic, and Patricia DeGennaro, a U.S. foreign policy expert, for guest lectures in October and November in the Catherine Evans McGowan Room of the library. The lectures are open free to the public. Dr. Rothfield is an English professor at the University of Chicago. He will lead a discussion on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. based on his personal research related to his latest book, “The Rape of Mesopotamia.’’ His work “focuses on the way in which literature, criticism, and other cultural activities participate in epistemic and political struggles,” he said. Dr. Rothfield’s book explains the cultural ramifications brought on from the looting of the Iraq National Museum during the beginning of the Iraq War. The Columbia University graduate has also published, “Vital Signs: Medical Realism in Nineteenth-Century Fiction,’’ and was the editor for a collection of essays for the volume, “Unsettling Sensation.’’ DeGennaro is an expert in U.S. foreign policy, and national and international security. She is an adjunct assistant professor at New York University’s Center for Global Affairs where she teaches courses on U.S. foreign policy, international military interventions, civil-military affairs, national security policy and the war on terrorism. She will share her knowledge and experience Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. She also has more than 15 years of writing experience, independent analyzing, as well as consulting in international relations and economic development. DeGennaro earned her Master of Public Administration in international security and conflict resolution from Harvard University, and a Master of Business Administration in international trade and finance from George Washington University. She is one of 33 women in the Progressive Women’s Voices Program. Presentations for Dr. Rothfield and DeGennaro will be in the Catherine Evans McGowan Room of the Bevevino Library. They are open free to Misericordia students, staff and general public.
