Fun & Fitness offers sports, performing arts and fine arts camps in summer|
Misericordia University is offering a full schedule of classes and camps for youngsters, teenagers and adults that will add some fun and learning to their summer. Jewelry design, pottery, performing arts and a variety of sports are among the programs that begin as early as June 3.
Day camp hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The sports camps include a free T-shirt and an optional hour of swimming in the Anderson Sports and Health Center pool. Lunch is provided for all-day programs.
Baseball Camp for Boys, for those ages 7-12, will be held July 7-11. The camp will feature individualized instruction by coaches under the direction of Misericordia Head Baseball Coach Pete Egbert. Camp will include specialized station training on hitting, infield play, outfield play, pitching and base running. Cost is $125 per week; $110 for second child in the same family. Cougar Soccer Success Camp, a co-ed camp for ages 7-14, will be offered June 30-July 4, and will provide skills and strategies for successful play under the direction of Chuck Edkins, in his 23rd year as head men’s soccer coach at Misericordia. Training will include individualized attention, team and individual play, mini-games and drills. Cost is $125 per week. Shin guards are mandatory and must be provided by the player. Cougar Field Hockey Camp for grades 3-11will be held June 23-27. The camp will be directed by Robyn Fedor Stahovic, in her 12th year as head field hockey at Misericordia. It will offer individualized instruction for goalies and field players and specialized station training including agility/footwork, stick work, offense, defense, teamwork, scrimmaging, and sportsmanship. Woodruff Basketball School for Boys will be held June 23-27 in the Anderson Center. This five-day camp for boys ages 8-17will offer specialized station training including passing, shooting, defense, fast break, and ball handling under the direction of Misericordia Head Basketball Coach Trevor Woodruff, in his 11th season leading the Cougars men’s basketball program. The hours are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the option to swim from 12-1 p.m. Cost is $100 per week, and $85 for a second child in the same family. Back Mountain Basketball Camp for Girls for ages 8 and olderwill be held June 16-20 in the Anderson Center. The hours are 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Participants will learn winning strategies and techniques under the direction of Misericordia women’s head basketball coach Allison Kern. The camp offers personalized instruction in all areas of the game through station work, team practices and games. In addition, each player will leave with a personalized written player evaluation by her counselor. The cost is $100 per week; $85 for second child in the same family. The Misericordia summer Fun and Fitness calendar also includes aerobics and water aerobics, cardio and strength training, and a fitness program.
Misericordia is also offering a series of non-credit classes in fine arts at the new Art Studios at 50 Lake St., Dallas. The schedule includes Jewelry Design for aged 15 to adult, taught by Gina Rice, an adjunct professor at Misericordia University. It will be offered on Tuesdays, June 3, 10, 17, 24 and July 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $130 per person plus a $20 materials fee payable to the instructor.
Fine arts instructor Skip Sensbach will offer Youth Clay Basics, for ages 10 to 15 years, on Tuesdays, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5, from 4-6 p.m. Cost is $130 per series and includes the first bag of clay. Sensbach will also present Adult Clay Basics 1,for ages 16 to adult. The Department of Speech-Language Pathology is also offering the inaugural Summer Performing Arts Training Academy from July 28-Aug. 9. Participants will have an opportunity to work and learn from instructors who are highly trained in voice, dance, public presentation, and musicianship. They will receive vocal training from Misericordia University faculty, intensive dance instruction, acting and drama coaching, as well as rhythm and music appreciation. All materials for the workshops are included in the registration fee, including music, scripts, theater materials, portfolio, a professional headshot, and two tickets each to the academy’s concluding performances. The workshops will be held Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the performances are Friday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. in Lemmond Theater in Walsh Hall. An early bird registration rate of $475 is available for people who register by June 1. The rate is $499 after June 1. Family discounts also are available for families that enroll multiple children.
