Annual Relay for Life raises $30,375 for American Cancer Society|
The Misericordia University Colleges Against Cancer Chapter recently raised $30,375.04 for the American Cancer Society at the student organization’s Relay for Life 2014 event on campus in April.
Over the last four years, MU’s Colleges Against Cancer Chapter has raised about $68,000. In 2013, the student chapter raised $17,699. Students raised about $7,000 in 2011 – the first year of the event – and $12,910 in 2012.
Organizers of the Relay for Life event at Misericordia University set several goals for event, including raisin $20,125 by having 350 participants. In the end, the annual event featured 484 registered participants, and 25 teams, including Besecker’s Bees from the Dallas School District which raised $5,055; Hunt for a Cure, $4,133.15; the Misericordia University football team, $2,472; Hunter’s Praying Angels, $2,372.91, and R-Kill Cancer, $1,730.
The following companies were sponsors of the event: Misericordia University, Metz Culinary Management, Bagel Art, Grotto Pizza, Dunkin Donuts, Domino’s Pizza, and H.L. Powersports. Entertainment was provided by DJ Nate Ceol.
