Business Department

Interim Department Chair: Zhen Ma, PhD

Accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), Misericordia's Business programs deliver superior quality education while offering opportunities for experiential learning outside the classroom through internships and professional engagement so that our students are prepared for their futures. In fact, four out of five Misericordia students participate in an internship or fieldwork experience before they graduate. It is through this real-world, hands-on experience that students gain an intrinsic understanding of their major and field, and employers appreciate.

"In my future I plan to be a Physical Therapist, and every course I have taken in my Health Care Management undergraduate program has given me an inside look into the real world experience of what the health care field really entails. From understanding marketing strategies in a business, how to work in a team, be involved in decision making, and even the basics behind how to get paid, my education has in the Health Care department has given me strong foundation to understand the health care world and be able to provide the best services for my future patients.

What stands-out most about the Health Care major is the experienced professors Misericordia provides. These aren’t just people who read definitions out of a book and try to explain it, these are people who spent most of their life doing the things that they are teaching. I have learned more from my professors’ stories and experiences than I ever could from a textbook."

"While pursuing my education at Misericordia Univeristy, I have been employed within the healthcare field. I have found the information that has been taught to my fellow peers and myself are applicable in the "real world". The factor that stands out to me the most about the healthcare major at MU is the constant guidance from my advisor/ professor I have received. He has guided me through my duration at Misericordia and for that I will owe him my future success. I am fully equipped to handle whatever future endeavors due to the education I received at Misericordia University."

"I graduated with my B.S. in Sport Management in December of 2014 and will hopefully be graduating with my MBA this May.

My education in the Misericordia Sport Management Department has greatly prepared me for my professional career by teaching me the fundamentals of business in sports and by encouraging and guiding me to get hands on experience with one or more internships along the way.

One thing that stands out the most to me about the Sport Management department at Misericordia is that I was able to distinguish the differences between the sports world and the normal business world. In sports, you are selling an experience opposed to a tangible product or service, so this is essential to understand in order to have a professional career in sports.

This program is dedicated to its students' success and seems to pride itself on the achievements that its alums produce during their lifetimes. Even though it is a relatively newer major at the school, it has definitely prepared me for my future and has also encouraged me to keep in touch with the professors down the road for guidance and advice."

"I work in the athletics department at NYU as a Facility and Event Manager.

Being a part of the sport management program at Misericordia prepared me for my future given the endless opportunities to grow as a professional in sport, while also personally as well. The extensive amount of support and resources Misericordia has to offer allowed me to excel academically, which translated directly into my professional career in sport.

There are many great aspects to the sport management program at Misericordia that stand out to me! However, the sport management program is a dream from an academic standpoint. The professors have the experience in sport and they bring their experience into the classroom using practical assignments and projects.

Another key factor to the program is the opportunity to network and to “get your foot in the door.” There are multiple opportunities to attend professional development seminars, round tables and gain internship experience with professional sports teams and collegiate athletics programs."
