School-supply drive benefits children in the Bourger Women with Children Program
Posted 07/25/2017 02:23PM

A. Pickett Construction Company of Kingston is asking the community for donations as it partners with the Ruth Matthews Bourger Women with Children Program at Misericordia University to provide back-to-school book bags for the children in the program.

The Bourger Women with Children Program provides housing for 16 women and as many as 32 children on campus while the mothers earn their bachelor's degrees. The women and their children live in three homes owned by the university and share in a variety of support services and programs offered by the institution of higher education.

The book bag project is coordinated by Caitlyn Thomas, a Bourger Women with Children Program student and director of philanthropy at A. Pickett Construction.

Among the supplies needed are book bags, pencils, crayons, notebooks, erasers, coloring books, folders, colored pencils, planners, construction paper, child-safe scissors, glue sticks, pencil holders, markers, lunch boxes, and children's books for ages 2-12 years.

Donations can be dropped off at A. Pickett Construction, 128 Vaughn St., Kingston, or at the Bourger Women with Children Office, 201A Mercy Hall, Misericordia University, 301 Lake St., Dallas. Thomas is also available to pick up donations. For information, please contact her at A. Pickett Construction at (570) 283-2057 or caitlynthomas@apickett.com.
