A Message from Kathleen Owens, Ph.D.
President of Misericordia University
July 1, 2020
Dear Students and Families:
Welcome to Misericordia University in cyberspace. I am honored to serve as president of this outstanding university. Founded in 1924 by the Sisters of Mercy, Misericordia is a thriving university dedicated to preparing students to lead lives of consequence in their professions, their communities, and the world. While our founders might not have envisioned your virtual campus experience, their early years were filled with promise, vision and dreams. The university they labored to establish remains a place of promises fulfilled, vision stretched and dreams realized.
The core of the university’s strength in fulfilling its mission is its people. Misericordia’s success is founded on talented, imaginative, dedicated, and hardworking faculty and staff who always seek to improve how we serve our students and the community. The university offers a combined 37 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences and Education, and Business, including many in accelerated formats designed specifically for busy, working adults. Our graduate degree programs are focused in the healthcare, education and business fields in a variety of formats as well. Moreover, our relationship with nearby corporations and institutions provides students with unique internship opportunities and clinical experiences leading to unparalleled preparation for successful careers and meaningful lives in a global society. To expand upon global awareness and gain personal experience with other cultures, students have the opportunity to travel for service learning or study abroad.
At Misericordia, we enjoy a culture that sincerely wants every student to succeed. Our small class sizes, our state-of-the-art facilities, and our rich history in the liberal arts allow for reflective and integrating learning experiences for our students. Our enrollment of nearly 2,500 students means we’re large enough to offer a vibrant campus life, but small enough so that professors can develop mentoring relationships with students. Excellent teaching is a hallmark of Misericordia, and you will find our faculty caring, competent, supportive and available.
Located in the scenic Wyoming Valley on a picturesque 123-acre residential campus, the university offers students a safe and comfortable living/learning experience. There are more than 40 clubs and activities for student involvement, including 23 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports teams, as well as esports and a variety of intramural sports.
So whether you are a student making a college choice, a parent seeking pertinent academic or financial information, an alum wishing to learn about happenings at your Alma Mater, a potential donor seeking to make a wise and prudent investment, or a cyber-traveler surfing the web, you are a welcome visitor. Enjoy your journey. You are always welcome.
