Christina Rasa '27
Christina Rasa '27

Meet Christina Rasa '27, Biology major with minors in Chemistry and Statistics. Christina is participating in the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Here, she works in the lab of Dr. Daria Babushok on a project studying the functional consequences of mutations in a gene called TUBB derived from patients with bone marrow failure. At MU, Christina serves as a peer tutor and teaching assistant. She'll assume the role of president of the Biology Association and the historian of our Tri Beta chapter. Christina also sings in MU's Vocal Ensemble!

Meet John Scheimreif '27, a Government, Law, and National Security major interning with the U.S. Marshals Service, Middle District of PA. John is gaining an understanding of the innerworkings of a government agency and benefitting from the mentorship of up to 12 experts in their field. He's grateful for this experience, which serves as an exceptional training ground and springboard for future internships and eventually a career in public service. One of John's extracurriculars includes volunteering for the annual veterans' event held at MU.

Meet Gabriella Leibman '27, who's majoring in Environmental Studies and Criminology. Gabriella is interning with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, focusing on wildlife conservation and management. Most recently, she assisted with black bear research, helping with wildlife handling, data collection, and monitoring efforts that support the management of the state's bear population. This internship has strengthened her passion for protecting PA's wildlife and public lands. Gabriella plans to pursue a career as a PA Game Commission Officer or another conservation law professional.

Meet Jariel Severino '28, a Government, Law, & National Security major with minors in Information Security and Religious Studies. This summer Jariel is interning with the Pennsylvania State Police Law & Leadership Program where he applies his strong work ethic and disciplined nature.

Jariel plans to pursue a career in the federal government or military. Jariel is also a member of MU's Men's Wrestling Team.

Meet Jonathan Castlegrant '27, a Mass Communications and Design major with a minor in Political Science. Jonathan is interning with State Representative Jamie Walsh's office this semester. He recently toured a facility to learn more about the Geisinger Life program, which specializes in services to help seniors live independently. Whether he's working in the district office, attending events, or touring facilities like this, Jonathan has enjoyed every aspect of his internship experience.

Now in his second internship, Bennett continues to experience the inner-workings of a busy practice, as he prepares for May graduation and law school! Some of his extracurricular activities include serving as Vice President for the Political and Legal Studies Association (MPLSA) and volunteering at the annual Veterans Recognition Event and Expo held at MU.

Meet Delaney Reinhart '27,a Social Work major with a minor in Medical & Health Humanities.

Delaney is interning with Volunteers in Medicine. One of the most meaningful aspects of her experience is learning how to provide supportive counseling related to mental health needs, helping patients connect with additional community resources that can improve their overall well-being, and learning how to collaborate with other service providers within the clinic. Delaney plans to pursue a Master's in Social Work to become a licensed Clinical Social Worker with an interest in Medical and Sports Social Work.

Meet Matt Warren '26, a Mass Communications & Design major interning with the Scranton Times-Tribune. Matt's exceptional writing talent shines in his work for this publication, and for MU's student newspaper, The Highlander, where he also serves as Editor-in-Chief.

Matt's work is getting noticed and acknowledged, earning him the 2025 Student Keystone Media Award for Best Ongoing News Coverage. We look forward to seeing what comes next for Matt when he graduates this May.

Francesca says one of the best parts of her internship has been diving into the tax side of estate law. She's incredibly grateful to Attorney Alex Russin for his mentorship and for taking the time to share his expertise after she expressed her passion for tax law.

Meet Bennett McNamara '26, a Government, Law, & National Security major interning with the law firm of Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald. Here Bennett is applying his research and technical skills while gaining valuable insight into the legal field. This experience will no doubt help Bennett as he pursues law school after graduation. In addition to his extracurricular activities, Bennett was the lead author of "Sign Stealing Doesn't Just Happen in Football and Baseball," which was published in Sports Litigation Alert (Vol. 21 Iss. 8), and did his Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) project on "Inequity and Antitrust: Implications of NBA Trades on the Collective Bargaining Agreement."

He's busy working on feature stories for Moments magazine and writing articles about the important work of our SURF fellows and their mentors. He's also written multiple articles for MU News and is responsible for capturing photos at the many events on campus this summer.

Meet Antonio Ferraro '26, a History major with a Public History & Museum Studies Specialization and a Theatre minor. Antonio is interning this summer at Eckley Miners' Village. His curatorial duties include cataloguing, inventorying, and cleaning artifacts. He's also helping prepare artifacts and spaces like

150- year-old houses for public view. On campus, Antonio is the Student Technical Director for the MU Players. He also works in the Writing Center and serves as a Peer Advocate and Peer Tutor.

Here, Francesca worked closely with the Civil Legal Representation Program, assisting attorneys and paralegals who provide a variety of services to their clients. Francesca gives special thanks to her internship supervisor, Tammy Rodgers, for her guidance and support and for the opportunity to contribute to such an important cause while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

Meet Jacob Tash '26, a Government, Law, & National Security major with plans to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Jacob is gaining valuable experience interning with MU's Campus Safety Department under the supervision of our officers, many of whom are retired law enforcement. Jacob also serves as a Student Film Coordinator and Coach for MU's Football Program and has volunteered with noble organizations like Wreaths Across America and Blue Chip Animal Farm.

Anna is interning with Parenting Autism United, which supports parents and caregivers of children with Autism, and individuals with Autism. Anna lives the charism of service in many ways and is actively involved with MU's Mission, Ministry, and Service Office. She's also a member of MU's Women's Basketball Team. Department where she shoots and edits videos, takes photos, and writes. She's the Editor in Chief of The Highlander and serves as a Peer Tutor, Disability Advocate for the SGA, and Social Media Coordinator for the GSA. She's also an Admissions Ambassador for MU.

Maura manages to do all this while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA! Way to go, Maura!

Luke plans to attend graduate school for engineering. He played his last season on MU's soccer team this past fall. He's a member of the Mathematics and Investors Clubs, and serves as treasurer for the Student Government Association (SGA). Luke's also a student representative on MU's Board of Trustees Finance Committee.

My name is Sarah Suchocki. I am a senior Social Work student, graduating in Spring ’24, with a special interest in Forensic Social Work. I am currently completing my third and final semester interning at the Luzerne County Public Defender’s Office. My internship experience has been extremely beneficial to my future work as a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) professional and has opened my eyes to the importance of advocating for individuals involved in the criminal justice system. I am currently completing a research project on the ineffectiveness of substance use treatment furloughs and the negative impact placed on individuals who must return to jail following the completion of substance use treatment. I am passionate about advocating for individuals involved in the criminal justice system along with reducing recidivism. My goal is to work within the prison system providing support and reentry services to inmates and go on to complete my master’s degree in Social Work (MSW).

Congratulations to Carli Tabone ‘25, named Intern of the Year at the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 8th Annual Young Professionals Awards ceremony. Carli is an Environmental Studies major with a minor in Biology. She’s been interning with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) since her sophomore year. Carli has worked in the field on trail counter maintenance and in the PEC office. She wrote a grant proposal and received funding for a Tool Lending Library for the PEC and their Trail Affiliates.

Meet Jennifer Nicometo '27, an Accounting major interning with the finance office at the Friedman Jewish Community Center ( JCC). Jennifer not only benefits from the hands-on experience she's gaining; she enjoys working with the JCC's supportive staff, and being mentored by COO/CFO Jim Gillespie. Jennifer also gets to work with MU alum Yanet Kesete '26! When she's not crunching numbers, Jennifer works at the JCC's summer camp for kids. When the fall semester starts, she returns to both classes and her spot on MU's Women's Volleyball Team.

In his role as a Talent Acquisition Intern with Nimbl, Logan works alongside the recruiting team, learning everything from the daily operations to the long term growth strategies. The experience is also helping him to grow his communication, business, and networking skills. Logan is grateful to the Nimbl team for their support and mentorship this summer.

When he returns to MU in the fall, Logan returns to his academics and his spot on MU's Men's Golf Team.

As a member of MU's Sport Management Association (SMA), Caelan sold 50/50 tickets at the 2025 Peach Bowl and recently attended the 2026 Fiesta Bowl. In addition to sharpening her sales skills and maintaining and impressive 3.8 GPA, Caelan plays for MU's Women's Soccer Team!

He helps to create events for the kids to enjoy during the games, and works on other events as well. In addition, John supports efforts to recognize shareholders and tests some of the fan games played during intermission to ensure their safety.

Meet Eli Stoute '27, a Sport Management major interning with MU's Athletics Department. Eli coordinates game-day operations for fall varsity programs that includes facility setup, logistics, and post-event breakdown, ensuring on-time starts and safety compliance. He also streamlines communications among coaches, officials, game staff, and facilities. In addition, he manages radios and run-of-show to keep events on schedule and resolve issues in real time. Eli is also a member of MU's Men's Basketball Team.

Meet Michael Flax '26, a Business Administration major specializing in Healthcare Administration. Michael spent his summer interning at Make-A-Wish NJ, helping to create life-changing experiences for wish kids and their families. In addition to his many administrative tasks, Michael recently helped to set up a large charity golf outing that raised over 1 million dollars in support of several charities, including Make-A-Wish. We applaud Michael for his service to others and for helping to show children that wishes really do come true.

Jennifer recently assisted in the finance and accounting process and reporting for HBMS's Blueberry Festival. She is a member of Misericordia's Softball Team, a Peer Tutor on campus, and Mercy Leader. Jennifer was also recently named MU's Tutor of the Year!

Meet Evan Wittig '27, a Business Administration major, specializing in Financial Planning and minoring in Statistics. Evan is interning with Robert W. Baird & Co. This experience has not only deepened his understanding of the financial industry and wealth management, it has given him valuable insights into the company's culture. As part of the Foley Hillsley Group, Evan works alongside industry professionals, learning to create and execute financial strategies for clients and navigate the financial market. In addition to his academic and professional development pursuits, Evan is on MU's Baseball team.

Meet William Troiano '27, a Business Administration major interning with Merrill Lynch as a Wealth Management Seasonal Client Associate. He's quickly learning the Merrill Lynch systems and assists his team with onboarding new clients and advisors. With shadowing and hands-on training through this Bank of America Program, William will develop the skills to become a Client Associate. On campus, William is captain of the Men's Lacrosse Team, making the MAC Honor Roll in both years of play. He's also a proud member of the Business Professionals Association (BPA).

As a scouting intern, Owen is busy scouting high school baseball players and evaluating their performance in showcases and games. I was a student in the Medical Imaging program who recently graduated in December 2023. I started my educational journey at Misericordia in the Fall of 2021. My last semester, I took an internship in the cardiac catheterization lab. Since graduation, I passed my boards and took a job at Geisinger CMC, the cardiac cath lab where I was initially an intern. I was a non-traditional student coming to Misericordia. I am a mom, a wife, and a veteran. I was honorably discharged after a four-year contract in January 2021, and began school at LCCC that spring. I had a great experience at Misericordia, and I am thankful my professors encouraged me every step of the way.

Stephanie Fazio ‘24 ‘25 is entering her first year of graduate school for Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)! Stephanie chose the field of speech-language pathology because she has always had a passion for helping children. She fell in love with the field in high school when she did a research project about children who stutter and when she attended Misericordia’s Speech Camp in the summer of 2019. Besides speech pathology, Stephanie has many hobbies and other passions. She dances for the Misericordia Dance Ensemble, is involved in many clubs on campus, such as NSSLHA and GPP, and is a researcher in the Misericordia SLP department. She is also a tutor for the Student Success Center. She likes to volunteer, enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and likes to stay physically active when she has free time.

My name is Maria Ryczek, CRNP. I am enrolled in a Doctoral Nursing Practice program at Misericordia University, with expected graduation in August 2024. In the last semester of my master’s degree at Misericordia, I had the privilege to meet Sr. Ruth Neely, CRNP, and The Ryan White Clinic staff and mission. During that semester, I learned more about infectious diseases and the care for this population. My passion for infectious diseases, especially HIV, has grown so much that I decided (under Sr. Ruth's wings) to carry out my quality project for my doctoral program at the clinic. During my time at the clinic, I observed that a huge factor that plays a significant impact on patient treatment is stigma. I also lived it as a child and part of my adulthood when my mother lost her battle with AIDS. I aim to find out if group support helps reduce stigma in adults older than 18. Stigma is a big issue this community faces, and I believe it is our job as humans to understand and help others live a quality life.

Working with rural and underserved communities is one of my passions in medicine and my primary driving factor for pursuing the AHEC (Area Health Education Center) scholars program. Roughly 80% of the United States rural populations are considered medically underserved. With the ongoing corporatization of the health care industry there is potential for this percentage to further increase. One way I see to combat this astounding percentage is to educate future medical professionals about the healthcare disparities rural populations experience and teach realistic ways to approach them. The AHEC scholars program works to fulfill this additional educational need about these population. The scholar’s program has provided me with many interprofessional discussions with health professions students with similar passions as mine and lectures from health care professionals who work in rural medicine. This has given me insight into many areas of disparities that rural and underserved populations struggle with. All of these experiences are helping to shape me into a better medical provider.

Jenna Potter
Jenna Potter '25

My name is Jenna, and I am in the graduate occupational therapy program. I will be graduating with my occupational therapy doctorate (OTD) in 2025! I absolutely love occupational therapy and its value in providing holistic and meaningful care. I completed my first fieldwork at Centerlight HealthCare which is an all inclusive program for the elderly. Here, I had experience in outpatient as well as with home health evaluations. I am currently completing my second fieldwork experience at The Center for Discovery, which is a residential school for children with complex disabilities. At Misericordia I am involved in the Integrated Studies Program. This is a program that offers the college experience to individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism. I am highly passionate about inclusive higher education and creating a space where all individuals have the opportunity to learn and grow as students. My experiences here are leading me to become an educated and skilled clinician within the field of OT with a concentration in leadership, research and program development throughout my time in fieldwork as well as the OTD capstone series.
