Application Process

Prospective transfer students will be considered for admission if they have maintained a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 2.0 or better (based on a 4.0 system). Higher GPA may be required to specific majors. GPA requirements for advancement into the professional level of individual programs vary (see individual curriculum guides for each program). Candidates who meet the GPA requirements for general admission and who seek advanced standing for previous college work, regardless of delivery mode or teaching/learning format, must provide the director of admissions with the following:

1. Application for Admission - a free online application is available by going to www.misericordia.edu/apply.

2. Official copy of secondary school transcript or GED test results

3. Official transcripts from each college/university previously attended

Transfer students must complete a minimum of 30 credits at Misericordia University. The university will accept no more than 61 credits from any single or combination of associate degree programs.

Although part-time students may begin their studies on a non-matriculating basis, they are expected to apply for formal admission to the university at the earliest possible date. Non-matriculated students are limited to earning 15 credits at the university unless special arrangements have been approved.

Only courses with a grade of C- (1.7) or better will be accepted for transfer. Grades earned at other institutions are not included in the student's GPA at Misericordia University.

Credit may transfer from other institutions if one of the following criteria is met:

The institution is regionally accredited (not applicant or candidate status) by a commission on higher education. Misericordia University recognizes the following regional accreditations:

• Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
• North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
• New England Association of Schools and Colleges
• Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
• Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
• Western Association of Schools and Colleges

The American Council on Education has reviewed and recommended the course for college credit.

The institution is legally authorized to grant standard college degrees and is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Misericordia University may award transfer credit based upon an individual review of factors such as course equivalencies, expected student learning outcomes, quality of most recent academic work, cumulative grade point average, number of credits completed, intended field of study, coursework relevant to a prospective student’s major, and applicability or transferability of completed work to Misericordia University’s curricula, standards, and course offerings. This determination will be made in consultation between the Department Chair in the discipline which sponsors the credit at Misericordia University and the Registrar.

*Fall 2025 Nursing Application Review will be May, 2025. Have application and all official documents to the admissions office prior to that date in order to be reviewed. 

Students looking to transfer into our full-time day Bachelors of Science in Nursing must hold a minimum, cumulative collegiate grade point average of 2.75 after having completed at least 15 college credits. Transfer applications to the BSN program are only accepted for the freshman and sophomore levels. We accept applications from transfer students for fall semesters only. This is based on space availability, and are only reviewed for acceptance with the successful completion of appropriate prerequisites; students cannot have received a grade below a "C" in any of the eight prerequisites (Anatomy & Physiology I, Anatomy & Physiology II, Microbiology, Basic Statistics, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Fundamentals of Nutrition, Intro to Psychology, and chemistry). In order to be eligible to be reviewed you are allowed to repeat one pre-req class. A&P I, A&P II and Microbiology must have be completed within 7 years of starting nursing classes at Misericordia.

*If BIO 211 A&P I, BIO 212 A&P II, BIO 228 Microbiology was taken more than seven years prior to admission, the knowledge is not longer current and the course will not be evaluated nor transferred.

Second Degree Applicants

Applicants who are seeking a BSN as their second degree must have all of the eight (8) required classes listed above successfully completed and an overall grade point average of 2.75 or greater in order to be considered for acceptance. Second degree applicants could apply for fall or spring semesters. The second degree on campus nursing program can take between 5-6 semesters to complete. These individuals do not need to submit SAT or PAX-RN scores. When completing an application, select "Transfer Student".

Part-Time Bachelor Degree in Nursing

Misericordia University’s Nursing Department offers several undergraduate nursing degree programs that are tailored to fit the busy lifestyle of individuals seeking to enter the nursing profession from another field. Part-Time Nursing Programs

Full-Time Weekday BS with option of MS of OTD Occupational Therapy Program

Beginning in the Fall of 2019, traditional weekday students will enter the Entry Level OT Program that begins with attainment of the Bachelor of Science in Occupational Science. In their junior year, students will select either the Masters of OT or the OTD graduate track.

A limited number of applications for transfers into the weekday occupational therapy program may result in acceptance at the freshman and/or sophomore level, based on space availability, and favorably undergoing a competitive review process.

In order to apply for transfer, applicants will typically hold a minimum collegiate grade point average of 3.0, having completed at least 15 college credits.

In addition to standard application requirements, transfer applicants for the weekday program need to also submit the following:

1. Two letters of reference

2. A 500-word typed statement of personal and professional goals

3. By the beginning of the first semester of enrollment, documentation of a full day (6-8 hours) of documented service in a health care setting with a licensed occupational therapist is required. Students may apply and be reviewed for admission without this documentation.

Weekend College Occupational Therapy Program

Entry-level MS Degree:The Weekend College Occupational Therapy program is specifically designed for students with a Baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than Occupational Therapy or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs). Graduates are prepared to become entry-level occupational therapy practitioners and eligible to sit for the National Board for Certification on Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) examination. Upon credentialing, occupational therapists are employed in clinics, hospitals, home health agencies, rehabilitation centers, schools, nursing homes, pediatric facilities, private practice, industrial centers and government agencies.

Misericordia University accepts applications from transfer students for fall semester to begin in the Medical Imaging program at the clinical level. A completed application must be received by the end of April for the next fall semester. For an applicant to be considered for acceptance, the student must have completed or is in progress of completing and has achieved a "C-" or higher in Anatomy and Physiology I & II.

Transfer students will be considered for acceptance, providing they meet the minimal overall GPA requirements of 2.75, completed a minimum of 24 credits that apply towards the major, the entrance requirements are met, and space is available. However, they must follow the sequence of courses for the major as listed in the catalog beginning with the fall semester sophomore year. Depending upon the number of credits accepted for transfer, students may complete all graduation requirements for the medical imaging program by December of the senior year; however, if intending to complete the program in December, no more than 11 credits can be taken during the Fall semester, due to accreditation requirements.

Roles	Diagnostic radiographic images, Computed Tomography, Mammography, Cardiac Catheterization, Special Procedures and Bone Densitometry images are produced utilizing ionizing radiation. The images may evaluate bony anatomy and/or internal organs. Magnetic Resonance Imaging utilizes a magnetic field and radiofrequency pulses to produce diagnostic images. Radiation Therapy employs radiation to treat malignancies of many parts of the body. Radiographers and individuals credentialed in specialty areas are responsible for acquiring quality images or administering treatment with great attention to radiation protection practices for the patient and the public.	Sonography images from the unborn to the geriatric; head to toe using high frequency sound waves to produce images of internal anatomical structures. Sonographers are responsible for performing the examination, optimizing image quality, assessing the image, and generating a worksheet to describe the examination findings to assist the interpreting physician in making the final diagnosis and report.

Transfer students are accepted for Sophomore year only since beginning the junior year through graduation, the curriculum is a specified sequence of diagnostic medical sonography courses.

The diagnostic medical sonography courses are held in an every other weekend format with clinical attendance required during the week during the last four semesters including the summer between junior and senior year.

Applications will be reviewed at the end of each semester with decisions being based on academics, geographical location of applicant, and clinical availability.

Certificate

Students interested in applying for the part-time 18 month certificate program must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, completed or in process of completing the prerequisite courses listed above with a ‘C’ or higher with no more than one grade replacement.

The diagnostic medical sonography courses are held in an every other weekend format with clinical attendance required during the week during the last four semesters including the summer between junior and senior year.

Students interested in transferring from another institution to the University to participate in its Teacher Education Program must also apply for admission. An official copy of the student's college/university transcripts demonstrating an earned GPA of 2.8 or better is required. Transfer students' transcripts will be evaluated on an individual basis in order to determine if courses are acceptable alternatives to the requirements. Prospective external transfer students must meet with and be approved by the TED's Transfer Coordinator before enrolling in courses sponsored by the department.

Students in good academic and disciplinary standing who have withdrawn from Misericordia University and wish to re-enroll within one calendar year of their withdrawal must notify the admissions office -  (866) 262-6363 or admiss@misericordia.edu.

Readmission to the university does not automatically imply readmission to the student’s former program. If a student wishes to return to the university in a different department than the one in which the student was enrolled at the time of withdrawal, the student must make formal application to that department through the admissions office. Students who have been academically dismissed from a specific academic program, but not from the university should consult academic department policies and procedures for specific eligibility requirements for readmission. The readmission process for students who have been academically dismissed from the university must include an interview with, and favorable recommendation from, the chair of the department to which the student is applying. In the case of disciplinary dismissal or a withdrawal for personal reasons, the matter will be referred to the Vice President of Student Affairs. In all cases, readmission to the university does not imply readmission to one’s former academic program. For undergraduate students who have previously attended Misericordia seeking a degree, please select student type "Undergraduate Transfer/Readmit" on the application for admission. For graduate students who have previously attended Misericordia seeking a degree, please select “Graduate”. Applicants with prior coursework from institutions outside of the United States will be required to provide a credential evaluation prepared by either the international credentialing service of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO), available at https://www.aacrao.org/; or, a credentialing service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
