Misericordia University and the Office of the President recently announced that they have selected David B. Rehm, Ph.D., to become the vice president of academic affairs effective July 17.

Dr. Rehm has served in various capacities at Mount St. Mary's University, Emmitsburg, Maryland, since 1995. Most recently, he served as a professor of philosophy, and prior to that he served 10 years as provost and vice president for academic affairs. As provost, he oversaw curriculum revision, faculty development, academic reorganization, program accreditation, strategic planning, and multiple building projects.

He began his academic career at Mount St. Mary's University as an assistant professor of philosophy. During his 22-year career at the institution, he also served as dean for academic affairs, associate provost, and associate professor of philosophy.

"Dr. Rehm is known among his colleagues for excellence in teaching and mentoring students, as well as being an effective administrator,'' said Thomas J. Botzman, Ph.D., president of Misericordia University. "He is looking forward to working with the campus community to develop and enhance transformational educational experiences for our students.''

At Misericordia University, Dr. Rehm will be the chief academic officer, with oversight of academic programs and personnel, as well as affiliated units such as the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library and the Student Success Center.

Throughout his career, Dr. Rehm has been actively involved in issues affecting higher education. He completed an unexpired term and was elected recently to his first full term as a commissioner for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. His term runs through 2019. Dr. Rehm served as one of 15 members of the Steering Committee that rewrote the accreditation standards applicable for colleges and universities in the mid-Atlantic region, and he has chaired Middle States visiting teams to various colleges and universities.

Dr. Rehm earned his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, where he double-majored in Modern European and American Intellectual History, as well as music. At the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, he earned his Master of Arts and Ph.D. in philosophy. During his academic career, he also has published articles and made scholarly presentations at state, national and international conferences.
