May 2021 Commencement
Commencement Planning for May 15, 2021
Dear Graduating Student,
The University’s Commencement Committee is pleased to share that the Spring 2021 Commencement Ceremonies will be a series of modified, in-person events on campus on May 15.
Graduating students will be grouped into one of approximately four ceremonies on May 15. Specific times and additional details on each ceremony will be sent via email in the coming weeks and posted online. We share our general intent with you now so you can make your decision about attending Commencement and reserving the date.
In early March, Pennsylvania authorities removed out-of-state travel restrictions and expanded the number of people allowed to attend indoor events. Both these changes make an in-person Commencement event(s) possible, where it was not for most of the last year. Please note, however, that the ceremony will be modified from our standard format to address health and safety as well as the increased number of ceremonies.
At this time, each graduate will be limited to two guests. All ceremonies will be held in the Anderson Sport and Health Center with socially distanced seating limited to 15 percent of the building’s capacity. All graduates and their guests will be required to maintain social distancing and wear masks at all times.
Congratulations to those who will be completing their degrees this semester. We extend the best of wishes for a healthy and prosperous future.
Update May 13, 2021:
Masks will still be required for all persons attending Commencement in the Anderson Center on May 15.
An announcement by the CDC relaxing mask wearing requirements for vaccinated individuals is welcome news; however, the university will have no way of accurately verifying vaccination status of graduates or guests in advance of Saturday. Please remain masked at all times indoors. Thank you.
