The cost of attendance (COA) represents the cost of attending Misericordia as a full time undergraduate for an academic year, (fall and spring) and includes both direct costs that appear on your student bill each semester such as tuition, fees, housing and food (if on campus), and indirect costs that are not billed by MU, such as books, supplies, transportation, and an allowance for miscellaneous expenses. MU uses the COA to help determine a student's eligibility for financial aid.
An asterisk (*) indicates a billed expense in each scenario. All other expenses are unbilled and are used to determine financial aid eligibility and to inform your personal budgeting.
Your actual costs may vary depending on your academic program, course load, housing arrangements, food plan choice, and individual circumstances. Click here to view all mandatory costs and fees for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Cost of Attendance Categories
Tuition and Fees are fixed costs and include the mandatory general fee. Tuition represents full time undergraduate (12-17 credits).
The housing and food allowance is based on the average room rate and the highest meal plan (if on campus). Students are required to live in on-campus housing during their first two years of enrollment. Students living on campus are required to have a meal plan. Students living off-campus or with parent have living expenses allowance to cover expenses for the academic year.
The books and supplies allowance provides for the expected annual cost for textbooks and supplies.
The transportation allowance provides for standard local commuting.
The miscellaneous expense allowance assumes personal expenses for clothing, recreation, personal care items, etc.
The Average Federal Loan Fees represent the average of all undergraduate loan fees. Loan fees are deducted from the loan before the university receives the disbursement.
Additional Considerations
There are additional expenses that may be added to an individual's cost of attendance. Below are some common additions to the cost of attendance.
Major and Course Fees Additional direct fees may apply such as program (major) and course fees. A full list of fees can be found in the University Catalog.
Student Health Insurance Requirement Misericordia University requires students to carry personal health insurance. If you are insured and have comparable coverage under another plan, you do not need to purchase the University sponsored plan but you still must complete and submit an Insurance Waiver Form each year by the deadline provided. Costs for 2024-2025 will be available in June 2024 by Student Life.
Alternative Learners Program (ALP) Students enrolled in this program will incur a fee each semester which is added to the COA. The yearly cost is $4,400 for first year students and $3,880 for transfer and returning students.
Professional Licensure Students are given an allowance for the costs associated with obtaining a license, certification, or a first professional credential, for programs that prepare them to enter a profession that requires such qualification. If you are enrolled in a program that requires a professional licensure or certificate, a one-time cost for obtaining a professional licensure or certificate will be included in your COA if the expense occurs while you are enrolled. Data provided by academic programs has been used to add these costs to COAs as appropriate. Students may submit documentation for required examinations obtained from an academic advisor or college administrator that verifies their profession requires the qualification, that the exam fee is paid before the student graduates, and the cost of the exam. Students may request that the cost be increased for multiple attempts to pass an exam.
