About

Director's Welcome

Welcome to the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library! Whether you are a student, faculty, staff, Friend, alumni or visitor, all are welcome at the library. You are encouraged to browse our diverse collection of library materials, which have been primarily selected to support the University’s curriculum. However, you will find some items in our collection that are meant for entertainment, especially when students are in need of a break from their studies. For students, faculty, and staff, we have iPads and laptops available for short-term borrowing. When not on campus, enter the library virtually through our web page. Here, you can find our catalog and Research Guides, which will assist with your research needs. Members of the Misericordia community have 24/7 access to our databases, electronic journals, and e-books from both on- and off-campus. Our most important resource is the library staff. As long as the library is open, there is always someone available to help you. If you are not able to come to campus, you can always call, text, e-mail, or chat with a librarian during normal library hours. During the academic year, the library sponsors a number of events, including recognizing new and recently published faculty, the Friends Speaker Series, and National Library Week activities. There is something for everyone at the Bevevino Library!

who gather information, raise inquiry, and embrace discovery.

History

Reference room of original Library in Administration Building (now Mercy Hall), circa 1940s-1950s

The original Misericordia library was located on the second floor of the Administration Building, which was rededicated in 2002 as Mercy Hall. As the library holdings grew, the space was expanded in the late-1970s and renamed the Sister Francesca McLaughlin Library, after Sister Francesca, who was Librarian from 1938 to 1965. The library eventually grew to encompass the entire second floor, and by the 1990s, plans were underway to build a new library building adjacent to Mercy Hall.

The Mary Kintz Bevevino Library was dedicated on Mercy Day, September 24, 1999, marking Misericordia’s 75th anniversary. Named in honor of Misericordia alumna Mary Kintz Bevevino (Class of 1987), the Library encompasses 37,000 square feet and offers users a variety of research materials and study environments, including study carrels, group study rooms, and casual seating areas. The Circulation Desk and the IT Student Help Desk can be found on the first floor of the library. Fourteen group study rooms are available on the first and second floors of the library for student use. The Computer Lab, which is also used for information literacy instruction, is located on the second floor. The McGowan Room, on the third floor of the library, is used for seminars, large group presentations and community meetings. The third floor also houses the Sister Mary Carmel McGarigle University Archives.

The Library is also home to the Center for Nursing History of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Friends of the Library

Please note: Currently, our Friends of the Library are on hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Friends of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library was established in 2004 to support programs and sponsor events that enhance student and community learning. The Friends of the Library's Speaker Series provides a venue for members of the Misericordia community or invited individuals to present and discuss their latest research, projects, or creative works. Most Friends events are open to the public. Fundraising efforts support the mission of the Bevevino Library to provide quality resources and improve access to library services and resources.

Members of the Friends group receive advanced notice of library programs and events, as well as borrowing privileges to the library's collection. It is only with your support that the library can survive. Please show your support for the importance of the Misericordia library by joining the Friends of the Library today.

Membership applications are available in the library or by completing the Friends of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library membership application form and mailing it in.
