Admissions FAQ's

Admissions Requirements

*Misericordia University has announced that it will continue test-blind admission review for the first-year undergraduate class entering through the 2027-2028 year in all academic programs. Students who have taken the SAT or ACT are not required to submit their scores. Test scores will not be used in determining admission or academic scholarship awards.

Admission to the undergraduate Exercise Science program offered by the University is a two-step process. Those interested must first be admitted to the University and then, when they have successfully completed a set of preliminary courses and experiences offered by the Exercise Science program, and met the GPA and mastery of basic skills requirements, they will be formally admitted as Exercise Science candidates.

  • Admission to the University: Persons interested in participating in the University’s Exercise Science program must apply for admission to the University. They should submit a hard copy or electronic application, an official copy of their secondary school transcripts, the results of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT) Program, and a written recommendation from a high school principal, guidance counselor, or teacher. The University’s Admissions Office reviews and approves applicants who have participated in a rigorous high school curriculum with strong academic performance and demonstrated an interest and commitment to the health sciences by participating in volunteer, extracurricular, and/or independent activities. Students for whom English is a second language must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English as demonstrated by a minimum score of 500 on the TOEFL.
  • Admission to the University for Transfer Students (External and Internal): Students interested in transferring from another institution to the University’s Exercise Science program must also apply for admission. External transfers must submit a hard copy or electronic application and an official copy of their college/university transcripts demonstrating a 2.5 GPA or better. Students already admitted to the University and enrolled in another program who want to transfer into Exercise Science must apply directly to the Department. Transfer students’ transcripts will be evaluated on an individual basis. Prospective external and internal transfer students must meet with and be approved by the Exercise Science program coordinator before enrolling in courses sponsored by the department.

Formal Admission to the Exercise Science Program

To become “candidates” for professional practice in Exercise Science, students must be formally admitted to the Misericordia University Exercise Science Program. Upon completion of 48-60 credits, students must apply for formal admission (candidacy status). Their Exercise Science advisor will determine the time for formal admission. Students must submit appropriate documentation, including:

  • An unofficial transcript documenting completion of at least 48-60 credits (12-15 credits for transfer students).
  • Achievement of a cumulative Misericordia University GPA of 2.7 or above.
  • Earned a C+ or better in all courses sponsored by the Misericordia University Exercise Science Program.
  • Earned satisfactory grades in all relevant introductory courses and field experiences.
  • Verification of adherence to the University’s and the department’s Academic Integrity Policies.
  • Completion of a self-evaluation using a professional dispositions checklist.
  • A faculty recommendation supporting admission.

The department’s faculty reviews applications and determines the status of students. Students formally admitted are referred to as “candidates” and may enroll in upper-division courses and experiences offered by the department.
