Program Learning Outcomes

PLO 1: Analyze the ethical, philosophical, and social factors influencing health and fitness practices. This outcome ensures graduates can critically evaluate the broader societal impacts and moral considerations of their professional decisions in health and fitness. They will understand how cultural beliefs, economic disparities, and ethical dilemmas shape health behaviors and access to services.

PLO 2: Apply human movement, behavior, and health promotion principles to design exercise programs for diverse populations. Graduates will be able to synthesize knowledge of anatomy, physiology, psychology, and public health to create effective and safe exercise interventions. This includes tailoring programs to meet the unique needs and goals of individuals across various age groups, abilities, and backgrounds.

PLO 3: Utilize scientific principles and quantitative methods to assess fitness, interpret data, and inform exercise prescription. This outcome equips students to competently conduct various fitness assessments competently, employing scientific rigor in data collection and analysis. They will use this data to make evidence-based decisions for personalized exercise prescriptions and to track client progress effectively.

PLO 4: Evaluate the historical, current, and future trends in health, fitness, and exercise science. Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of the field, recognizing how past developments inform present practices and anticipating future directions. This includes critically assessing emerging research, technologies, and public health initiatives.

PLO 5: Demonstrate professional responsibilities and ethical practices in the fitness industry. This outcome emphasizes the importance of integrity, accountability, and adherence to professional standards in all aspects of practice. Graduates will exhibit the conduct and dispositions expected of a competent and trustworthy exercise science professional.

PLO 6: Demonstrate the ability to complete personal fitness assessment. Students will acquire the practical skills necessary to accurately perform a comprehensive range of fitness assessments on individuals. This includes proper technique for measuring cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
