Misericordia University students can engage in the excellent career opportunities available through Air Force ROTC. The local detachment is hosted at Wilkes University and open to students at partner colleges and universities across Northeastern Pennsylvania, including MU.

Program Overview

The Program

A professional training program for any major, undergraduate or graduate. No formal application or interview is required to start.

01 / Mission

Develop Officers

Air Force ROTC prepares students to serve as commissioned officers in the United States Air Force and United States Space Force through curriculum, leadership labs and physical training.

02 / Schedule

One Class Day at Wilkes

Aerospace Studies and Leadership Laboratory meet Thursdays at Wilkes University. Misericordia cadets attend Physical Training locally on Tuesday mornings at 0700.

03 / Commitment

No First-Year Obligation

There is no service commitment during the first two years of the General Military Course. Students can decide later whether to continue toward a commission.

04 / Eligibility

Any Major. Any Year.

Open to full-time college students with three or more years remaining, including first-year students, sophomores, juniors and graduate students.

05 / Outcome

Guaranteed Career

Graduates commission as Second Lieutenants in the Active Duty Air Force or Space Force in a career field aligned to their degree and qualifications.

06 / Host Location

Hollenback Hall, Wilkes U.

Air Force ROTC is headquartered in Hollenback Hall on the Wilkes University campus at 192 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

Financial Support Opportunities

Air Force ROTC offers national and in-college scholarship opportunities for qualified students.

High School Scholarship Program

Designed for high school seniors and graduates with no full-time college experience.

  • Four-year undergraduate scholarship leading to a USAF or USSF commission
  • Application window typically runs during senior year
  • U.S. citizenship and a passing physical fitness assessment required

In-College Scholarship Program

Awards scholarships based on merit to freshmen and sophomores already enrolled at a host or crosstown AFROTC school.

  • Pays toward tuition and required fees for eligible cadets
  • Includes a monthly nontaxable stipend and annual book allowance
  • Detachment staff evaluate cadets on academics, physical fitness and major
