Cardiologists from Geisinger Medical Center Visit Misericordia University

Dallas, Pa. — The Premedical Health Professions Program at Misericordia University recently hosted a presentation titled “Becoming a Doctor: A Cardiologist’s Perspective” on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. 

The event featured two distinguished cardiologists from Geisinger Medical Center. Dr. Kris Pfirman, DO, FACC, a 2010 Misericordia University graduate in biochemistry and a cardiac imaging specialist, shared his experiences in the field of cardiology and medical imaging. He was joined by Dr. George Ruiz, MD, Chair of Cardiology and Heart Failure and Transplantation Cardiology at Geisinger Medical Center, who discussed advanced cardiac technologies, including ventricular assist devices, MRI, CT, and echocardiographic imaging of the heart.

The session offered students an opportunity to learn firsthand about the path to becoming a cardiologist and gain insight into current advancements in cardiovascular medicine. The event reflected Misericordia University’s ongoing commitment to connecting students with accomplished healthcare professionals and promoting excellence in the health sciences.
