Caregiver Support Symposium at Misericordia University Connects Community with Vital Resources and Education

Free Community Event at Misericordia University Brought Together Experts and Families to Address Key Caregiving Challenges and Support Older Adults

DALLAS, PA — Misericordia University’s Social Work Department successfully hosted its Caregiver Support Symposium on March 24, welcoming older adults, family members, and caregivers from across the region for a morning of education, resources, and community engagement.

The free half-day event brought together professionals in aging services, healthcare, and public safety to address key issues impacting caregivers and older populations. Attendees gained practical tools and information designed to support caregiving responsibilities and improve quality of life for both caregivers and those they serve.

Left to Right: Jason Kavulich, Secretary of Aging for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Sam Sanguedolce, Luzerne County District Attorney

The symposium featured presentations from Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich; Nathan Lampenfeld, who presented the Pennsylvania Care Kit; Samuel Sanguedolce, Esq., Luzerne County District Attorney, who addressed elder abuse and fraud prevention; and Dr. Tifanny Mulally of Misericordia University, who discussed mobility and physical wellbeing for caregivers. Participants had the opportunity to learn about available support systems, enhance their understanding of caregiving challenges, and connect with local experts.

In addition to the educational sessions, the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office provided an on-site Prescription Take-Back Box, offering a safe and convenient way for community members to dispose of unused or expired medications.

The event underscored Misericordia University’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and service through its Social Work Department, which continues to provide programs and initiatives that support families, professionals, and vulnerable populations throughout the region.
