Families Flock to Misericordia University for “Boom in the Night” Science Celebration

DALLAS, PA —Misericordia University’s campus came alive with color, foam, and excitement as hundreds of families gathered for the annual Boom in the Night event on Thursday, October 23. Hosted by the Dead Alchemist Society, the university’s student chemistry club, the popular Halloween-themed program transformed the campus amphitheater into a glowing laboratory of hands-on science fun.

Children and parents explored a variety of interactive science stations, including slime making, color-changing potions, bubbling cauldrons, and the event’s signature puking pumpkins — a crowd-favorite demonstration of foamy, fizzing chemical reactions that drew cheers from the audience.

The event aimed to show families that science can be exciting, approachable, and engaging. Faculty from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry guided student organizers in designing creative experiments that blended education with entertainment.

Students in the College of Arts and Sciences led the demonstrations, emphasizing safety and participation while encouraging children to explore scientific concepts. The evening also featured Halloween music, glowing decorations, and treats for young participants, creating a festive and educational atmosphere.

Boom in the Night drew one of its largest turnouts yet, welcoming local families, school groups, and alumni. Organizers credited the event’s continued success to strong student involvement and the support of Misericordia faculty and staff.

The event, free and open to the public, has become a beloved fall tradition for the Back Mountain community. Planning is already underway for next year’s Boom in the Night celebration.
