Linda Auker Attended the 2023 Ecological Society of America Conference

Linda Auker, Ph. D., assistant Biology professor and program director of Environmental Studies at Misericordia University, attended the ESA conference in Portland, Oregon, this past August. A certified senior ecologist through the ESA, Auker gave a presentation titled “Dashboards for ecology: Designing tools to communicate with stakeholders.”

Linda Auker, Ph.D.

During her presentation, Auker presented a mapping software she developed to help communicate and share data with shellfish farmers in the Gulf of Maine area. She collaborated with professors at the University of Maine to collect data.

“My presentation was geared towards ecologists who have some programming and/or GIS knowledge to create their own tools and share their data,” Auker said.

At the conference, Auker connected with many individuals and companies, helping market Misericordia by creating connections for students.

“I spoke with representatives from NASA, US Forest Service, Department of Energy, and the EPA, for example, who all gave me resources to share for internships and other opportunities for my students,” Auker said.

Auker also served as a career panelist and resume reviewer this year and served as the chair of the Researchers at Institution section of the ESA.

ESA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of scientists founded back in 1915. The organization is dedicated to promoting ecological science, raising the public’s awareness, and increasing available resources for ecological science.
