MIPEC Hosts Sock Hop to Promote Inclusion for World Down Syndrome Day

DALLAS, PA - Misericordia University's Interprofessional Education Connection (MIPEC) brought students, faculty, and community members together in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day with a Sock Hop-themed social event held on campus.

Organized in collaboration with The Arc of Luzerne & Lackawanna Counties, the event aimed to raise awareness about Down syndrome and advocate for the support needed to help every individual live their best life.

The Arc is a nonprofit organization that promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), actively supporting their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lives.

Around 60 different abled adult clients from The Arc, along with their families, joined the event. They were welcomed by an equally large group of student and faculty volunteers representing programs within the College of Health Sciences and Education (CHSE). The event promoted interprofessional education through its focus on core competencies including values and ethics, roles and responsibilities, teamwork, and communication.

Attendees enjoyed an evening of dancing, games, treats, and fun. The event served as a vibrant example of inclusion, shared joy, and community connection. It provided students with a meaningful opportunity to engage with individuals of all abilities. To learn more about Misericordia's Interprofessional Education Connection, click here
