Misericordia to Hold Annual David A. Evans 5k Color Run

After a break due to Covid, Misericordia University will host the annual David A. Evans 5K Color Run/Walk on Sunday, November 6th, at 10:00 am.

David A. Evans' Smirk

The event honors David A. Evans, Jr., who died by suicide in April 2014. Evans was the son of Misericordia’s Dr. Dawn Evans, assistant professor in Occupational Therapy, and her husband, Dave Evans. A football and guitar player, Evans just got his driver's license and had a heart of gold that touched all he met. A friend to many and all he met, he made sure everyone counted and always treated those with kindness. Evans was a beautiful soul that made others better with the love that he gave. The “David Evans Smirk marked the world,” and so was the Misericordia community when he and his sister Morgan were often on campus helping his mom during many volunteer projects with the students on campus.

Proceeds of the race will benefit the David A. Evans Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund at Holy Redeemer High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA. It is dedicated to students at the Catholic high school who plan to continue their education at Misericordia University and are given the opportunity to apply for the scholarship fund. The fund was established in honor of David A. Evans by his parents and sister. Over $21,000 has been awarded to graduating students pursuing a career at Misericordia University.
