Misericordia University Alumnus, Dr. Christian Beck, Awarded Prestigious Mother Mary Catharine McGann Alumni Achievement Award

Misericordia University is proud to announce that Christian Beck, Ph.D., Associate Lecturer of English at the University of Central Florida, has been chosen as the recipient of The Mother Mary Catharine McGann Alumni Achievement Award. Presented at the annual Convocation Ceremony, this distinguished accolade honors outstanding career accomplishments by a Misericordia University graduate.

Beck holds a Ph.D. in English Literature and Cultural Studies from Binghamton University. He has dedicated his academic career to exploring the significance of the cultural construction of place and space and their linguistic representation of literature. Using literature from the medieval to the modern, Beck’s work utilizes a variety of philosophical approaches to understanding the effects of our surroundings on individuals, communities, and nations.

A distinguished scholar, Beck's academic journey began at Misericordia University, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy. During this time, his passion for literature was ignited, leading him to a career in academia.

Joining the University of Central Florida in 2010, Beck contributed significantly to the institution. Starting as an Adjunct Lecturer, his expertise and dedication to his craft quickly garnered recognition, granting him an esteemed position as an Associate Lecturer. Beck's impact on students and his commitment to excellence have earned him respect throughout the university and academic community.

Reflecting on the influence of Misericordia University on his success, Beck expresses gratitude. “I am honored to receive the Mother Mary Catharine McGann Alumni Achievement Award and thrilled to be given the opportunity to return to campus after over 20 years to see the changes to a place that provided me with so many memories and experiences. I often think fondly of my time at Misericordia and the foundation it laid for my career; so to return to receive this award is equal parts exciting as it is humbling,” said Beck.

Beck's impactful research and extraordinary achievements symbolize the quality of education Misericordia University provides. As he continues to make a difference in English literature and Education, Beck inspires scholars and honors the university that served as the foundation for his academic journey.
