Misericordia University and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Announce New 4+4 Affiliation Program

DALLAS, PA – Misericordia University has entered into a new affiliation agreement with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) to establish a 4+4 Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Program Pathway, providing qualified Misericordia students with a clear and direct route to medical school.

Under the agreement, students who successfully complete their undergraduate studies at Misericordia and meet academic and admissions requirements will be granted provisional acceptance to LECOM’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. The pathway enables students to complete four years of undergraduate education at Misericordia followed by four years of medical training at LECOM.

“This partnership reflects Misericordia University’s longstanding commitment to preparing students for careers in the health sciences,” said Angela Asirvatham, B.V.Sc., Ph.D., Professor of Biology and Director of Pre-Medical Health Professions at Misericordia University. “By working closely with LECOM, we are creating new opportunities for our students to pursue medical education and serve their communities as highly trained physicians.”

LECOM, the nation’s largest medical college and the only osteopathic academic health center in the United States, is widely recognized for its innovative programs and affordability. The institution maintains one of the lowest private medical school tuitions in the country, consistently strong residency placement rates, and a reputation for producing physicians dedicated to whole-person care.

LECOM President John M. Ferretti, D.O. stated, “LECOM is delighted to announce our partnership with Misericordia University in offering an early acceptance program for students. This collaboration represents our commitment to fostering educational opportunities and providing a seamless pathway for aspiring healthcare professionals. Together, we aim to empower students to pursue their academic passions and embark on a rewarding journey towards a successful healthcare career.”

The new 4+4 program complements Misericordia’s growing list of affiliation agreements designed to expand pathways into health professions, including partnerships in medicine, dentistry, optometry, and more. Students interested in the LECOM pathway should contact Misericordia University’s Pre-Medical and Health Professions Program for additional details on eligibility and application procedures.
