Misericordia University Faculty Member Presents at National Conference, Promotes New Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program

DALLAS, PA — Dr. Melissa Weidner, an experienced acute care nurse practitioner and nursing educator at Misericordia University, recently presented at the National Conference for Nurse Practitioners in Acute Care in Orlando, Florida. Her session, titled “Quick Takes: What Not to Miss in Hospital Medicine,” highlighted essential diagnostic considerations and clinical insights to help nurse practitioners identify critical conditions that may otherwise be overlooked in hospital settings.

While attending the national conference, Dr. Weidner and colleague Dr. Satterfield also promoted Misericordia University’s new Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) program, which will welcome its inaugural cohort in Fall 2026. The program represents an important expansion of graduate nursing education in Northeastern Pennsylvania and builds upon the university’s longstanding commitment to preparing advanced practice nurses.

Conference attendees had the opportunity to learn about the program’s innovative curriculum, which will incorporate advanced clinical training, simulation experiences, and the use of the newest ultrasound technology to support hands-on learning in acute care settings.

“We were excited to share information about our new Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program and connect with nurse practitioners from across the country,” said Dr. Weidner. “Programs like ours are essential for preparing the next generation of clinicians to care for complex patients in hospital and critical care environments.”

The new program at Misericordia University continues the institution’s tradition of leadership in graduate nursing education. To learn more, click here
