Misericordia University Faculty Present at National Academic Museums and Galleries Conference

DALLAS, Pa. - Misericordia University’s Art Gallery Director Lalaine Little, Ph.D., and Psychology Professor Alicia Nordstrom, Ph.D., recently presented at the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG) Annual Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Their panel, titled “Yes, And: Gallery Professor Collaborations,” featured the experiences of four teams from diverse higher education institutions across the country. Each team consisted of a campus curator and a faculty member. Alongside Misericordia University, participating teams represented Boise State University, Florida Atlantic University, and East Los Angeles College. Dr. Little served as moderator for both panels.

The session highlighted the unique role of campus museums and galleries in serving both students and the wider community. Through faculty collaborations, curators can showcase the research and curricular work of the institution to non-academic audiences. By sourcing and displaying objects that complement faculty work, museum and gallery professionals help expand the educational offerings available to the public. This type of programming not only generates interest on social media and in traditional news outlets but also demonstrates institutional relevance and community outreach efforts that appeal to grant makers and local leaders.

The presentation also addressed the complexities of such collaborations, noting that budgets and staffing are often limited on campuses of all sizes. Attendees heard two perspectives from each team—one from inside the field and one from outside—about the process of developing these exhibitions and programs.
