Misericordia University Holds National Ranking in US News 2025 Best Colleges
Dallas, PA - U.S. News & World Report ranks Misericordia University (MU) among other nationally known universities in their latest 2025 rankings released this week.
Misericordia University is ranked 244 among 436 institutions in the “National Universities” category, which includes institutions such as Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford. Institutions in the National category..."offer a range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates.” MU is tied at 244 with other institutions such as Loyola New Orleans, New Mexico State, and the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth.
Misericordia also appears on U.S. News national list for "Top Performers in Social Mobility" which lists colleges that are, according to U.S. News, “…more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants.”
Rankings remain only one of many factors that should be of importance to families considering a college or university. “Third party rankings vary greatly in their ability to provide valuable information to prospective students,” says Jim Roberts, chief of staff at Misericordia University. “Different rankings capture different data that may or may not be of value to your particular needs. We encourage prospective students to look at individual colleges directly and ask about the quality of specific academic programs of interest, their graduation and retention rates, and their level of student engagement,” he adds.
U.S. News & World Report changed their methodology in 2023, removing metrics on alumni giving, class size, and high school standing of the entering class, as well as faculty with the highest degrees in their field.
Misericordia University is a highly personal community of approximately 2,200 students in Northeastern Pennsylvania. As a private Catholic institution founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Misericordia emphasizes collaborative and hands-on learning and co-curricular activities by engaged faculty and staff. The university challenges students to excel academically, professionally, and socially and has notably superior graduation and retention rates. The university’s core values of Mercy, Service, Justice, and Hospitality underpin the more than 50 academic programs. Belonging to the NCAA Division III, athletic teams are in a wide variety with 28 Intercollegiate programs, which include the new additions of STUNT, Men’s and Women’s Wrestling, and Men’s Ice Hockey. Misericordia University is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024.
