Misericordia University Hosts Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy for Student-Focused Campus Visit

Alumnus, Former Basketball Player Connects With Students, Team and Prospective Families

DALLAS, Pa. — Misericordia University welcomed Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy, a member of College Misericordia’s Class of 1983 and a former member of the university’s men’s basketball team, to campus April 24–25 for a series of student-centered events, including a “Meet the Governor” session and participation in the university’s spring open house.

Dunleavy met with students, faculty and staff on April 24 in the McGowan Room of the Bevevino Library for an open session that offered attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the two-term governor and accomplished alumnus. Drawing on his time as both a student and student-athlete, he shared reflections on his Misericordia experience and discussed how it helped shape his path to a career in public service.

The session also included a brief interactive portion, allowing students to engage with Dunleavy and ask questions about leadership, career development and civic involvement.

During his visit, Dunleavy also spent time with the Misericordia men’s basketball team, connecting with current student-athletes and reflecting on his own experience as a Cougar.

On April 25, Dunleavy continued his visit by attending Misericordia’s open house, where he connected with prospective students and their families and offered an alumnus perspective on the value of a Misericordia education.

The visit highlighted the impact of Misericordia alumni and reinforced the university’s commitment to connecting students with graduates whose experiences — in the classroom, on the court and beyond — demonstrate the wide range of opportunities available after graduation.
