DALLAS, PA — Misericordia University welcomed Matthew Winkler, co-founder and editor-in-chief emeritus of Bloomberg News, to campus on March 11 as part of the College of Business’ Mark J. and Lorraine S. Alles Distinguished Speaker Series.

The event brought together students, faculty, and staff for an engaging discussion on leadership, journalism, and the evolution of global financial news.

Winkler, who co-founded Bloomberg News in 1990 with Michael Bloomberg, shared insights into building one of the world’s most influential financial news organizations. Over his 25-year tenure leading the newsroom, Bloomberg News expanded to more than 2,700 journalists across over 150 bureaus worldwide, producing thousands of stories daily.

During his presentation, Winkler discussed the challenges and opportunities of launching a global media enterprise, emphasizing the importance of accuracy, speed, and accountability in today’s fast-moving information landscape. He also reflected on leadership during times of financial and geopolitical uncertainty and the critical role journalism plays in informing decision-making.

The event concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Winkler on topics ranging from media credibility to career pathways in business and journalism.

The Distinguished Speaker Series continues to bring accomplished leaders to Misericordia University, offering students valuable real-world perspectives and opportunities for professional growth.
