Misericordia University Hosts Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging for Campus Discussion

DALLAS, PA — The Misericordia University Department of Social Work welcomed Jason Kavulich, Secretary of Aging for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to campus for a special presentation, “Aging in Pennsylvania,” held in Insalaco Conference Room 218. The program, open to Misericordia students and staff, explored how statewide policy and programming are preparing Pennsylvania for a future in which one in three residents will be age 60 or older by 2030.

Secretary Kavulich, who leads the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, outlined his vision for building and sustaining a high-quality aging network that supports older adults in living healthy, active, and independent lives. He highlighted the Commonwealth’s 10-year strategic plan, Aging Our Way, PA, which is designed to transform Pennsylvania’s aging services infrastructure and better align programs with the needs of older adults and their families.

Students from a variety of disciplines attended the event, gaining insight into how aging policy intersects with health care, social services, business, education, and community development. The presentation reinforced Misericordia University’s commitment to preparing students to respond thoughtfully and professionally to the needs of an aging society.
