Misericordia University Physical Therapy Students Conduct Mobility Screenings for Local Residents

Dallas, Pa. — On Friday, September 26, Misericordia University’s first-year Physical Therapy students conducted a Mobility Screening event under the direction of faculty members Laurie Brogan, P.T., D.P.T. and Alana Carusotto, P.T., D.P.T. The event welcomed residents of The Pines, including several Sisters of Mercy, to the university’s Physical Therapy Department.

During the session, residents completed a series of four assessments designed to measure lower extremity strength, balance, and walking ability. Student clinicians compared each participant’s results to age-related norms and provided individualized recommendations to help improve or maintain mobility.

The activity offered an important opportunity for Misericordia’s Physical Therapy students to gain hands-on clinical experience early in their education while engaging in community service. The screenings also highlighted the department’s commitment to promoting health awareness and preventative care within the local community.
