Misericordia University Receives $500,000 ARPA Grant to Advance Health Sciences Education

DALLAS, PA - Misericordia University was awarded $500,000 through the Luzerne County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant program, supporting recent capital improvements to Passan Hall, home to the university's health sciences programs.

The funding played a critical roll in advancing health sciences education at Misericordia, strengthening the university's ability to address the region's growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.

As part of their oversight of ARPA allocations, members of the Luzerne County Council and administration have visited various grant recipients, including Misericordia and other local institutions. In January, county council members visited Misericordia University to tour Passan Hall and see firsthand the impact of ARPA funding on the university's health sciences programs.

Misericordia's ARPA proposal emphasized the essential need to bolster the healthcare workforce, which was already under strain before the COVID-19 pandemic. The application detailed how the renovation of Passan Hall would enhance the university's ability to train and graduate healthcare professionals to serve the Luzerne County community.

With a high percentage of senior citizens and a healthcare system reliant on well-trained graduates, the region stands to benefit significantly from Misericordia's expanded educational capacity.
