Misericordia University Social Work Club Hosts Panel on Homelessness and Food Insecurity in NEPA

DALLAS, Pa — The Misericordia University Social Work Club, with support from the Department of Social Work, hosted a student-led panel discussion on November 20 focused on homelessness and food insecurity throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The event brought together representatives from several key community agencies, including Meals on Wheels, Catholic Social Services, NEPA Youth Shelter, Dallas School District, and the Hazleton Integration Project. Panelists offered insight into the growing needs of individuals and families experiencing housing instability and limited access to nutritious food across the region.

Participants emphasized the importance of connecting community members with available programs, increasing awareness of the daily challenges faced by those who are food insecure, and upholding core professional values when working with vulnerable populations. The discussion reinforced the ongoing need for compassion, dignity, and informed advocacy in addressing these critical social issues.

The Social Work Club plans to continue hosting educational programs that highlight regional needs and promote community engagement among students.
