Misericordia University Students Present Research at International Conference in Oxford

Dallas, Pa. – Misericordia University Professor Dr. Kathleen Scaler Scott, along with six students from the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, recently attended the 14th Oxford Stuttering and Cluttering Research Conference in Oxford, United Kingdom, from September 23 to 26.

The international conference brought together researchers, clinicians, and individuals who stutter or clutter to share advances in fluency disorder research and therapy. Students had the opportunity to engage in meaningful scientific discussions with internationally recognized experts in the field.

Misericordia students Ava Laukaitis, Megan Aaron, Lauren Dowd, Margaret Koester, Kayla Montemarano, and Emma Maley presented research on topics including virtual reality and stuttering and cluttering, video game play in stuttering therapy, physiological responses to moments of stuttering, and stages of change in cluttering.

Dr. Scaler Scott presented on Looking Holistically at Atypical Disfluencies and served on a panel titled Understanding Cluttering from Clutterers Themselves.

The conference provided valuable professional experience for the students and underscored Misericordia University’s commitment to advancing clinical research and education in speech-language pathology.
