Misericordia University's Graduate Nursing Clinical Placement Program Assists Aspiring Nurse Practitioners

DALLAS, PA – Misericordia University’s Graduate Nursing Program provides aspiring nurse practitioners with a rigorous, hands-on education grounded in both academic excellence and compassionate care. Established in the early 1990s, the program prepares nurses to advance their clinical expertise through carefully structured coursework and individualized placement coordination.

Unlike many programs where students are responsible for finding their own clinical sites, Misericordia’s clinical placement model features a dedicated clinical placement coordinator who arranges clinical experiences for every student. This approach ensures each placement aligns with professional goals and meets national accreditation standards, allowing students to focus on learning rather than the logistics of finding their own clinical site.

Oradell Banker, graduate program clinical placement coordinator, described the nurse practitioner path as both demanding and rewarding. “Anyone who’s interested in becoming a nurse practitioner has to fully understand the roles and responsibilities and be willing to take the challenges that come with it, but it’s very fulfilling,” said Banker.

Melissa Weidner, chair of the Graduate Nursing Department, highlighted the community-centered focus of the program. “Misericordia offers a unique experience in that we have small classes and faculty who get to know you well, even though you’re in an online program. We want our students to feel our values and mission, whether they’re right next door or a thousand miles away,” said Weidner.
