One Dream, Many Voices: Misericordia University Unites for MLK Week

DALLAS, PA - Misericordia University concluded its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Week with a series of impactful events that brought students, faculty, staff, and community members together in reflection, service, and meaningful dialogue. Guided by the theme “One Dream, Many Voices: The Power of Solidarity,” the week honored Dr. King’s enduring legacy while reinforcing the University’s commitment to justice, equity, and inclusion.

Throughout the week, members of the Misericordia community participated in a McAuley Market donations drive, collecting non-perishable food items, hygiene products, and household essentials to support students and local families experiencing food and resource insecurity. The drive demonstrated the University’s strong culture of service and compassion, with donation locations active across campus.

Programming also included Project C.A.R.E. (Caring Actions Reaching Everyone), during which participants assembled blankets and care packages for local organizations while reflecting on the importance of service to others. The event featured a presentation from Mercy Leader Ella Utt, who spoke about the power of caring actions and the lasting impact of community engagement.

A community vigil provided space for reflection on Dr. King’s message of peace, justice, and unity. Attendees gathered to honor his legacy and reaffirm their shared responsibility to foster inclusion and understanding both on campus and beyond.

The week continued with The Dream Reimagined: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue, hosted in the Pauly Friedman Art Gallery. Faculty, students, and community members engaged in a thoughtful conversation examining Dr. King’s vision through contemporary perspectives, followed by a reception that encouraged continued discussion and connection. In addition, Misericordia University Athletics hosted an honorary MLK women’s basketball game at the Anderson Center, highlighting the role of inclusion and unity within athletics and campus life.

A highlight of the celebration was the 2nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Dinner, which recognized students, faculty, administrators, and staff whose leadership and service exemplify Dr. King’s values of peace, perseverance, and purposeful action. The awards honored individuals whose work continues to inspire positive change within the University and the broader community.

MLK Week concluded with a community brunch in Archie’s Lounge, offering an opportunity for fellowship and reflection as participants shared in conversation and celebrated the collective impact of the week’s events.
