Pauly Friedman Art Gallery Hosts Constitution Day and Citizenship Day Program

DALLAS, Pa. — The Pauly Friedman Art Gallery at Misericordia University recently welcomed campus and community members for a gallery talk and reception in observance of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. The program, Vietnamese Diaspora and Belonging, was held on Tuesday, Sept. 16, one day ahead of the federally recognized holiday, to allow participants to gather in advance.

The evening began with a reception followed by a gallery walkthrough and presentation by Kim Nguyen Tran, Ph.D., professor of ethnomusicology at Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles and co-founder of the Missing Piece Project.

The program was presented in conjunction with the traveling exhibition Textures of Remembrance: Vietnamese Artists and Writers Reflect on the Vietnamese Diaspora. The exhibition highlights the Vietnamese diasporic experience through works by 25 contemporary artists and writers. It reflects on April 30, 1975—the end of the Vietnam War—and explores its ongoing impact on themes of identity, memory and belonging.

The gallery event provided an opportunity for attendees to engage with art and scholarship while reflecting on the significance of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.
