Pauly Friedman Art Gallery Sponsors Trip to Corning Museum of Glass
DALLAS, PA - Misericordia University's Pauly Friedman Art Gallery took a group to The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY, in October.
The Corning Museum is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of glass, the world’s foremost library on glass, and one of the top glass-working schools in the world. Transportation and fees were free to Misericordia students and Misericordia Faculty/Staff, courtesy of the Barbara Soyka Fund for the Humanities, and the Pauly Friedman Art Gallery. A limited number of spaces were offered to Community members for $25.
In addition to live glassmaking demonstrations and seeing historical glass from all over the world, participants created a fused glass suncatcher. The group also visited the traveling exhibition, “Collidoscope: de la Torre Brothers Retrospective,” organized by the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino. This exhibition featured three decades of glass work that incorporated the artists’ Mexican heritage.
The Barbara Soyka Fund for the Humanities was established by Barbara Soyka, a retired English teacher who sponsored music and theatre events, established scholarships for women, and organized the Shakespeare Garden at Misericordia University prior to her death in 2019.
