Jonathan (“Jon”) Greenwald, a Wyoming Valley native and retired U.S. diplomat, will be the keynote speaker when Misericordia University holds its ninth annual winter commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 in the Anderson Sports and Health Center. Jon Greenwald graduated from Wyoming Seminary (Class of 1960), Princeton University, and Harvard Law School. He is an international law specialist with a doctor of jurisprudence degree. Mr. Greenwald served as a United States Diplomat for 30 years and was stationed at numerous places around the world. He was the embassy’s political counselor as the Berlin Wall fell and Germany reunited. Mr. Greenwald served on U.S. delegations to the UN General Assembly, reviewed the Helsinki Final Act on Security and Cooperation in Europe, and held important positions in the State Department’s legal, intelligence, counter-terrorism and European bureaus. He also served as Minister-Counselor of the U.S. Mission to the European Union.
