Statistics Student Research
Students in the Misericordia Statistics Program are constantly getting hands-on experience with applied statistics and research, building a strong foundation of applied skills that will help them excel in their future careers. Additionally, our program is designed to give students room to pursue their own projects, allowing our students to explore and apply their skills in areas they find interesting.
Our courses involve a series of applied projects that intertwine the classroom and the community. Recent projects with the Wilkes-Barre YMCA have even been featured in local and regional newspapers and journals. Please click here to read the article as featured in the Times Leader.

Misericordia University Athletics – How Do We Stack Up?

This study investigated several sports in the Misericordia University Athletics Program, studying different traits within each sport. For our football program, analysis was conducted to compare all-time university records to other schools in our conference. For our basketball program, analysis was conducted to analyze the effects of different coaching styles on 3 point shot percentage. Finally, for our baseball program, analysis was done to compare strikeout percentage trends over time between Misericordia and the MLB.
The Effect of Water Exposure Time and Salinity on Water Uptake in Radish (Raphanus Sativus, Brassicaceae): An Exercise in Experimental Design

This study investigated the effect of water salinity on seed growth in young radishes. The authors designed an experiment to determine the effects of a couple hypothesized salient factors in seed growth. Analysis of growth differentials are presented. Effects and interpretations are discussed.
Everlasting: Do Gobstoppers Dissolve Faster in Different Liquids?

This study investigated the effect of liquid medium in the dissolving of Gobstoppers. The authors designed an experiment to determine the effects of several liquids on the time it took for Gobstoppers to completely dissolve. Analysis of time differentials are presented. Effects and interpretations are discussed.
